Get QuKi Notes for Android

QuKi Notes for Android is currently in testing mode on the google play store (this is a Google Play requirement for new apps). In order to access the beta, you need to join the beta testing program. It's free, it's easy, you only have to do it once. This step will go away once the app is publicly available.

To get the permissions required to access the closed alpha test versions, first join this google group: https://groups.google.com/g/boju-studio-beta

Once you've joined the group, open the Downloads page and, under Android, choose Google Play.

Installing QuKi Notes from an APK

1. Download it

On your Android device, go to the downloads page and download the Android APK.

2. Install it

Tap the downloaded .apk. If your phone shows it as an archive or offers to extract it, open it with the package installer instead (an APK is a ZIP file inside, which some file managers pick up on). What happens next depends on your phone, since Google is in the middle of rolling out a new, stricter flow:

  • Most phones right now: Android blocks it with a prompt like "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source." Tap Settings on that prompt, turn on Allow from this source, then tap back to return to the install screen and tap Install.
  • If your phone has the new "Advanced Flow" already (rolling out through 2026–2027): installing an app from a developer Google hasn't verified prompts you to turn on a setting in Developer Options, confirm your identity, restart your phone, and then wait 24 hours before the install is allowed to go through. After that, you can allow it for 7 days or indefinitely.

If what you see doesn't match either of these, Android's own current instructions are the ones to trust — this is changing quickly.

Updating later

Download the newer build from the same place and install it the same way — it updates QuKi Notes in place without losing your notes, since every release is signed with the same key. You don't need to uninstall first.
